As an Executive Director of McConnell Group and part of the senior management team, John’s main responsibility has been to set the capital strategy and structure for the McConnell Group.

In particular this has involved a close working relationship with McConnell Property to establish the overall capital structures for its many development projects. The key focus has been to optimise each project’s return while managing the risk profile associated with such projects.

John has also been responsible for overseeing the treasury management and investment activities across the McConnell Group. John’s background and experience in corporate finance was gained while working with Merrill Lynch in New York, and Jarden Corporation in New Zealand. This was followed by a few years with McConnell Dowell where John assisted in the financial restructuring and sale of the business, and later was responsible for a new business development in Saudi Arabia. Since leaving McConnell Dowell John has been with the McConnell Group, which he established with his father in 1993.

John’s qualifications include an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire, USA) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from the University of Melbourne.
